On the occasion of the 2026 Giornata del Contemporaneo, The Shape of Space presents a new project by Marinella Senatore developed in dialogue with the collections of Fondazione Cariverona and UniCredit. The project will be unveiled to the public on Saturday, 10 October at 9:30 pm, on the occasion of ArtVerona, with an opening event featuring a DJ set curated by Path Festival.

At the heart of the exhibition is a new site-specific light installation conceived for the courtyard of Fondazione Cariverona’s historic headquarters in Verona. Drawing on the visual language of traditional Italian luminarie, Senatore transforms the courtyard into a symbolic public square: a space for gathering, passage and shared experience. Light, words and ornamental forms become devices through which architecture is reconsidered not as a neutral container, but as a place shaped by the people, relationships and voices that inhabit it.

The installation is accompanied by two large tapestries entitled The Theatre of Commons (2026), displayed respectively at Fondazione Cariverona and UniCredit. The works continue Senatore’s long-standing research into participation, community building and the shared production of knowledge, exploring how individual experiences can become part of collective narratives.

The project also places the artist’s work in dialogue with a selection of pieces from the Fondazione Cariverona and UniCredit collections. Historical and contemporary works create an itinerary focused on the body, landscape, public space, memory and belonging, bringing different periods and artistic languages into conversation. Works by artists including Arturo Martini, Adrian Paci, Gabriele Basilico, Luigi Ghirri, Francesco Jodice, Vanessa Beecroft, Maria Friberg and Minjung Kim contribute to a broader reflection on the ways in which spaces are continuously produced and transformed by human presence.

Participation is a central element of the project. Words, reflections and stories gathered through the involvement of students from the University of Verona enter into the process through which the new works take shape. Space thus emerges as a relational and constantly evolving reality, generated through the intertwining of encounters, memories, gestures and forms of coexistence.

Curated by Jessica Bianchera, Luca Bochicchio and Monica Molteni, the exhibition is a project by Fondazione Cariverona and UniCredit, in collaboration with the Museo del Contemporaneo UniVr, ArtVerona and Urbs Picta. On the occasion of the 2026 Giornata del Contemporaneo, The Shape of Space presents a new project by Marinella Senatore developed in dialogue with the collections of Fondazione Cariverona and UniCredit.
