Six ultra-panoramic photographs by Gerri Gambino reveal an invisible yet familiar city, viewed from the sea. Landscape photography is the chosen tool to investigate the transformations of the territory generated by its reduction to a commodity among commodities, where the spatial fabric of the contemporary world reveals the lacerations of the post-landscape. With a disenchanted gaze, the invisible places of the city reveal the unhealed wounds in the body of communities.
“Sopralluoghi” is an informal, unconventional, and open collective bringing together architects, artists, photographers, scientists, poets, and historians. We began with the need to re-engage in a deep listening to this territory—a place of passage for millennia—seeking out its most hidden facets through the shop window of Gianfranco Anastasio’s artist’s studio in Messina. This space served as a permeable interface between thought and the street, hosting—at irregular intervals—individual words alongside visual interpretations proposed by various contributors. A common thread linked every narrative choice displayed in the window: each was accompanied by a travel notebook in “leporello” format, capturing notes, sketches, drawings, and images.
