Giovanni Termini (born in Assoro, Enna, 1972) lives and works in Pesaro.
His artistic practice focuses on redefining sculpture viewing it not as an arrangement of static volumes, but as a combination of expanding forms.
He works with everyday objects drawn from diverse contexts and made of various materials such as wood, steel, glass, and scaffolding pipes that interact to assert the primacy of matter and form. These objects, juxtaposed in contrasting ways, engage the viewer both physically and mentally; his installations evoke an ironic or paradoxical sense of disorientation, inviting the public to pause and reflect by linking the solidity of structures to the uncertainty of existence. The paradox between stability/strength and imbalance/precariousness mirrors the human condition, echoing the internal tensions within the structures themselves. Termini prefers creating site-specific works, aiming to invent a new spatial vocabulary that gives life and voice to unusual perspectives and unconventional settings.
He begins by investigating the space where his work will be created, absorbing and experiencing it before executing the installation. The conceptual and reflective process is just as vital as the phase of conceptual absorption the moment when an idea transforms into form.
His concept of space the environment where the artist works and where the artwork is born and lives does not correspond to an abstract, predefined dimension; it is not a Cartesian space, but rather a space assessed from the artist’s own perspective as a “degree zero.” Indeed, the space becomes a “construction site”a keyword in Termini’s practice, synonymous with an environment of continuous progress, advancement, and transformation which originates as a tool for introspection and ultimately becomes the artist’s distinctive form of expression.
The construction site is not merely a place of work where material is transformed; it is also a space governed by order, rigor, and the logic of movement a place where anything can happen, just as in life.
