The Municipal Art Gallery of Città di Castello is dedicating an exhibition to Bepi Romagnoni (Milan, 1930 – Capo Carbonara, 1964), one of the most original and radical figures in post-war Italian art.
The exhibition, Bepi Romagnoni. 2 piani, curated by Mario Amodeo and Lorenzo Fiorucci, is presented in collaboration with the Municipality of Città di Castello – Department of Culture, headed by Michela Botteghi – the Bepi Romagnoni Archive, and Montrasio Arte. Through a selection of works, the exhibition traces the artist’s rapid and intense development, from his formative years through to his final works of 1964.
His artistic career spanned little more than a decade and was tragically cut short when Romagnoni was just thirty-three years old, at a moment when his research had reached a high degree of autonomy and an international dimension. It was precisely during the final years of his life that the artist developed the Racconti (Stories), works in which painting, drawing, and photographic fragments come together through a personal interpretation of collage. While consciously rooted in the medium’s historical origins, this approach transformed collage into a new instrument for examining contemporary reality.
