Paper and Canvas

Alessandra Schiavinato presents her most recent works, created between 2025 and 2026, in an exhibition that demonstrates her ever-evolving artistic research.
At the heart of her poetics are paper and canvas, considered not as distinct media, but rather as parts of a single language, united by the use of color as an interior expression and a tool for visual dialogue.
Paper and canvas are surfaces with their own geography (grain, texture, absorbency, fragility, and resistance). Bringing paper and canvas into dialogue in the same exhibition (or within the same works) creates a boundary and exchange, where two worlds and two different material traditions meet, overlap, and transform each other.
The layers of color, the reliefs, the folds of the paper or the tensions of the canvas become a visual metaphor for historical, territorial and identity transformations.
The surface of the work becomes a veritable visual cartography. The artistic gesture on paper and canvas traces a route, furrows, and fluid boundaries, offering the observer a critical understanding of how we construct and perceive our physical and mental spaces.
