The concept “Geographies of Contemporaneity” is explored through the eyes of the youngest generations, who become the cartographers of the present. The video redefines geography by moving beyond traditional paper maps to embrace a living atlas made of flows, digital connections, climate transformations, and human migrations.
The protagonists—third-year students from the “Europa-Alighieri” Lower Secondary School—wear sculptural, metaphorical masks crafted from recycled materials, transforming their faces into speaking maps that tell the story of a changing world. The narrative core unfolds across three visual tableaux:
– Digital Geography: Inspired by binary codes and virtual networks, it explores the paradox of global hyper-connection paired with emotional interpersonal distance.
– Changing Geography: Crafted from recycled newspapers, it gives voice to a shifting landscape and the fragile balance between human intervention and wounded yet resilient ecosystems.
– The Geography that Breathes: A mask with a powerful symbolic and intercultural value, evoking the constant movement of humanity, the meeting of peoples, and an identity conceived as a fluid, open, and welcoming space.
A project that bridges multimedia languages, civic education, and contemporary art, offering a poetic reflection on how new generations inhabit and redesign the world. The students loudly declare: “We are the new geography. The present is our space to inhabit.”
