Opening the doors of the Town Hall of Staranzano for an extraordinary viewing on the occasion of the AMACI Contemporary Art Day is not merely an act of cultural sharing, but a precise political gesture in the noblest sense of the word: the restitution of art to its public and civic function. The Permanent Collection “Arte Open _ Itinerari Possibili”, which occupies and redefines these institutional spaces, presents itself to us as a constellation of international viewpoints, a map of traces left by artists within the local territory to stimulate a permanent reflection on our present.
It is precisely along the ridge of reflection and the urgency of the present that the path of “The Architectures of Silence” takes shape. The silence investigated by contemporary art is never a void or an absence of voice; it is, conversely, the dense space of memory—the place where pain, testimony, and beauty transform into immaterial yet indestructible monuments.
To comprehend this density, the visual section of the event opens with a necessary prelude, a conceptual bridge connecting Staranzano to the deepest geographies of contemporary tragedy. The work “If I Must Die” by the late poet and academic Refaat Alareer serves as an ethical threshold. The text of this poem is programmatically displayed at the entrance of the Venice Arsenale to welcome visitors of the Biennale Arte: a clear sign to anyone entering that art cannot be a mere aesthetic exercise detached from reality, but a vital impulse toward social and historical introspection.
This very same tension permeates the two preview videos born from the exclusive documentation gathered by Franco Milani and Nicoletta Leghissa during the pre-opening days of the Biennale. The documentary “Minor Keys” will lead us through a choral journey among the Pavilions of the Giardini and the Arsenale, capturing the profound spirit of an edition marked by global complexity and guided by the radical vision of curator Koyo Kouoh, to whose memory this evening is dedicated.
Finally, the focus “Austrian Pavilion & SeaWorld Venice” will offer a close-up, unprecedented testimony of the performance by Florentina Holzinger. Thanks to the exceptional sensitivity of the artist, who granted permission to use the official videos produced by the Austrian team, we examine a powerful work that dismantles traditional architectures of representation to investigate political bodies, identities, and human fragilities.
This major cultural operation marks a permanent historical milestone: all visual materials will be officially deposited and preserved within the Historical Archives of Contemporary Arts (ASAC) of La Biennale di Venezia, transforming the documentation of a local event into a collective and permanent international herit
