The Prologo association in Gorizia is inaugurating a solo exhibition by Piero Pieri titled Corpi (Bodies). This photographic work draws inspiration from the traces—garments and personal effects—left behind by migrants as they traverse the Karst plateau during the final leg of the Balkan route. However, Pieri’s artistic project does not aim to document the tragedy itself; rather, it seeks to engage with these events to prompt personal reflection: can we all deepen our empathy for these stories? Above all, can we recognize a shared bond with these people in their dire need, acknowledging the human condition as one of passing through the span of a life? Bodies in transit, indeed—bodies that, as seen in these images, leave behind traces and empty garments, serving also as symbols of memory and the legacy of our own actions.
The result is a series of analog photographs—fine art prints—created as staged scenes. Only the final image stands apart, capturing an actual jacket abandoned by a migrant, upon which falls the shadow of a body in transit.
