SNOW IS FALLING AND I FEEL NOTHING
Video performance – LIBEROTRANSITO
In SNOW IS FALLING AND I FEEL NOTHING, LIBEROTRANSITO explores the distance human beings can establish from their own consciousness, until protection from emotions becomes a form of anesthesia.
At the centre of the image, a white surface separates the body of the performer Beatrice Orsini from the viewer’s gaze. The body is present, yet it does not fully reveal itself: only hands and arms emerge, fragments of a presence attempting to cross what conceals it. The surface thus becomes a concrete representation of an inner distance, of the progressive separation from one’s deepest and most intimate self.
The performer’s movements are slow, measured, almost restrained. Her hands search, make contact, seem to explore the possibility of connection, yet the encounter never takes place. It is a movement without encounter: the body seems to approach something that belongs to itself, without ever truly reaching it.
The snow evoked by the title introduces an image of silence and stillness. Snow is falling and I feel nothing: something is happening, yet it no longer produces a response. The external event slips across the individual’s surface without managing to penetrate it, while emotions are progressively muted, filtered, neutralised.
The work thus reflects on a contemporary condition in which apathy can become a form of survival: not feeling in order not to be hurt, not participating in order not to become involved, not making contact in order not to expose oneself. Yet in distancing ourselves from our emotions, we also lose contact with ourselves and, inevitably, with others.
The performer therefore remains separated, as though the body still knew the desire to encounter itself, while consciousness had already learned not to respond.
