Opening ‘Francesco Clemente. Works 1975-1980. The Primacy of Drawing’

The exhibition project, curated by Francesco Guzzetti, traces Francesco Clemente’s artistic production from 1975 to 1980. This was a pivotal period in his artistic research, marked by intense experimentation, during which, following an extensive use of photography, drawing emerged as the preferred medium of his practice.
This development, between the 1975s and 1980s, established Clemente as a pioneer of the international revival of figuration.
The title of the exhibition points to the central role of drawing as a technique in Clemente’s practice, while also identifying a decisive moment in the construction of his artistic identity: his arrival at a form of figuration rich in cultural layers and deeply subjective, which would contribute to the renewal of international painting.
