For the Giornata del Contemporaneo, Casa dell’Upupa, the house-museum of the sculptor Ilario Fioravanti in Sorrivoli, opens the artist’s bedroom to a new installation of works never seen before. A unique, one-time experience, accessible only through a guided visit, in a house where art meets the very spaces in which an artist lived and worked.

Casa dell’Upupa is not a museum like any other: it is a home. Ilario Fioravanti (Cesena 1922 – Savignano sul Rubicone 2012), architect and sculptor, bought it at the age of 36 when it was a ruin, an ancient mill reduced to rubble by the bombings of the Second World War, and restored it using the original materials. He made it his “good retreat”, the place where he could draw, sculpt and withdraw from the world.

On 10 October, for the Giornata del Contemporaneo, Ilario’s room hosts a new installation of works never seen before.

The installation can only be seen during the guided visit, in small groups, so that you can experience the house at a calm pace, away from the crowds.

Each visit lasts about 60 minutes. Groups of up to 10 people.

THE EXPERIENCE: WHAT YOU CAN DO

Step into Ilario’s room. The heart of the day: the new installation of works never seen before, to be discovered in person.

Walk through a 300-square-metre home. The route takes in the studio, the small sitting room, the mezzanine overlooking both, and the kitchen with its counter made from Ilario’s own tiles and its shelf of vases, some of his own invention, others traditional Romagna pieces.

See Ilario’s works up close. Terracotta painted while still damp and sometimes retouched after firing (the ingobbio technique), bronzes such as the shepherd on a camel and the contortionist acrobat, and drawings in sanguine.

Discover the 11 crucifixes. One of the rooms holds 11 crucifixes dating from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century.

…and much more.
