On the occasion of the 22nd Giornata del Contemporaneo, promoted by AMACI, Studio Cesare Berlingeri, in collaboration with the Fondazione Cesare Berlingeri ETS, opens its doors to the public for an exceptional occasion. The day includes visits to the studio, where an installation of works by Berlingeri will be on display, and, in the evening, a conversation between the artist and the photographer Azzurra Primavera.
Primavera knows this place well: during the Onda Creativa residency – whose outcomes will be presented in October in the exhibition Il ritratto dell’invisibile (The Portrait of the Invisible) at Villa Paola in Tropea – she observed it through her camera, lingering on the canvases, the tools and the traces of the creative process. On 10 October, it will be the public’s turn to enter those same rooms and discover what usually remains behind the finished work: the materials, the gestures, the rhythms of a practice that is rarely seen.
The conversation
The highlight of the day will be the conversation between Berlingeri and Primavera, moderated by Ugo Mancino. The dialogue will start from a sentence Berlingeri wrote in his studio in 2010, which Primavera came across there: “In art, only those who desire the impossible will be saved.”
From there, a dialogue will unfold between two different languages. On the one hand, Berlingeri’s painting, in which matter is transformed through gesture, folding and colour; on the other, Primavera’s photography, which isolates fragments of reality and opens them up to new readings. At its heart lies the relationship between image and creation, between observing and making, and the singular experience of an artist who enters another artist’s workspace and makes it part of her own research.
The visits, by reservation in the morning and afternoon, will offer a chance to step into the place where Berlingeri’s world comes to life and to learn more about the Foundation’s activities.
