This floor-based installation consists of over two hundred used drumheads which, reacting to the footsteps of the public, produce different rustling and crackling sounds depending on the movements of the body. Walking through the exhibition space thus becomes a perceptual experience that transforms visitors into an integral part of a veritable sound choreography. Meanwhile, two horn-shaped loudspeakers play back recordings obtained through the acoustic manipulation of the drumheads themselves, creating a continuous effect of disorientation and reconfiguration of the listening experience. By repurposing materials normally destined for the scrap heap, the work aims to prompt reflection on the practices of accumulation, recycling and reactivation of what is commonly perceived as worthless because it has reached the end of its useful life.
