“Presenze” consists of three permanent installations by Federico Paris located in Roghudi Vecchio, in the province of Reggio Calabria, in the heart of the Aspromonte Mountains. They are three Corten steel sculptures, each 3.5 meters tall. Roghudi Vecchio is a unique place where the landscape, the memory of abandonment, and Grecanica culture still coexist today. The proposed installation is not intended to be a mere decorative element, but rather an experience capable of engaging with the village and its history.
The work consists of three vertical, totemic structures made of Corten steel, distributed across the village’s three entrances. From a distance, they appear as abstract human figures—the armor of archaic warriors whose presence protects and safeguards these places while simultaneously interacting with nature. The sculptures are designed to catch the wind and produce sounds and frequencies, like hushed voices bearing witness to times past, evoking the voices of the people who once lived here—a breath that breathes new life into the village. Thanks to Roghudi’s mayor, Pierpaolo Zavettieri, to the Jobel consortium and its magnificent president, Santo Vazzano, and to Gloria Lauro for her invaluable and indispensable help.
