Without an Audience

On Saturday, October 10, 2026, the Museo del Novecento e del Contemporaneo at Palazzo Fabroni will participate in the twenty-second edition of *Giornata del Contemporaneo* with an initiative organized in collaboration with Tempo Reale, center for musical research, production, and education.
The event will begin at 4:00 PM with an introduction by musicologist Luisa Santacesaria regarding the long-standing collaboration between Tempo Reale and Palazzo Fabroni. This will be followed by “Senza Pubblico | Improvvisazione aperta per una comunità di performer” (Without an Audience | Open Improvisation for a Community of Performers), held in the museum’s first-floor hall. Admission is free, subject to availability.
“Senza Pubblico” is a long-duration performance for musicians playing acoustic and electronic instruments as well as voice. Freely inspired by the projects of Marek Chołoniewski, the event sees each participant — selected via a call for entries on the Tempo Reale website in collaboration with Fango Radio — actively contributing to the construction of the musical flow. This creates a horizontal context in which professional musicians place their expertise at the service of a collective creative process, fostering a communal experience where everyone participates — on equal footing — in the creation of sound.
This initiative marks another step in the five-year collaboration (2021–2026) between the Municipality of Pistoia (Palazzo Fabroni) and Tempo Reale (founded by Luciano Berio in 1987 and currently directed by Francesco Giomi). This partnership has led to the development of structured, ongoing sound art initiatives — such as the permanent sound art installation *SOUND LIFE*, located since September 2024 beneath the spacious loggia facing the “artist’s garden” — that leave a visible and recognizable mark on the local community.
The initiative is also part of the broader project titled “FABRONI SOUND MUSEUM: Towards the establishment of a hub for sound research in Pistoia (2026–2027).”
