The Italian Cultural Institute of Addis Ababa is participating in the Giornata del Contemporaneo – Italian Contemporary Art 2026 with the art exhibition “Way In, Way Out” by Yared Olivelli, which is open to the public from October 5 to 30.
The exhibition by Yared Olivelli, an instructor in Figurative Arts at Addis Ababa University, explores the relationship between external space and the individual’s personal world: the body and the self-become spaces traversed by forces, experiences, and relationships that continually reshape their boundaries. Through the contrast between light and darkness, openness and closure, presence and absence, the Italian-Ethiopian artist reflects on how the world around us can shape our lives and transform our sense of self.
The exhibition thus becomes a journey between internal and external spaces, an exploration of identity as a shifting territory and of art’s ability to give form to the transformations that shape both the individual and the contemporary world.
