The city of Varese hosts a remarkable new body of work by SEA Creative (Fabrizio Sarti), one of the most distinctive and consistent voices in the Italian urban pop scene. Renowned for his early graffiti, large-scale murals, and the wistful, quirky characters that populate walls across Europe, the artist now presents himself in a style that is intimate, powerful, and deeply tactile.
In this exhibition, the artist steps away from large urban walls to focus on canvas, bringing a powerful reflection on memory, time, and the layers of city life into the gallery space.
The works on display—created entirely using acrylics and spray paint—strike the viewer with a sophisticated visual device: the paintings resemble overlapping layers of posters and urban imagery. Through impeccable technique, SEA Creative simulates the passage of time and the layering typical of city walls, where messages accumulate and blend into one another.
Beneath these surfaces, his iconic characters emerge: figures with sketched features and expressive, melancholic gazes that seem to watch the viewer from an undefined era. What initially appears to be a random collage of weathered paper is, in fact, a meticulous process of painterly layering, where each painted overlay reveals a story, a face, or a fragment of the soul. With this collection, SEA Creative transforms urban decay into visual poetry, inviting the audience to look beneath the surface and rediscover the beauty hidden in the fragile details of our everyday lives.
