The Life and Death of a Candle is a multisensory workshop conceived by the artist collective life is beautiful in collaboration with AKHET, an independent curatorial and editorial platform dedicated to contemporary culture, emerging forms of expression and dialogue with the new generations. The event is part of Road to EDI, the programme of educational activities, training moments and laboratory initiatives that Fondazione Morra Greco develops together with artists, educators and cultural practitioners, in continuity with the pedagogical research of EDI Global Forum and its dissemination across the territory.
Through the interweaving of charcoal drawing, improvised movement, poetry and sound experimentation, participants are guided in the observation of the relationships between light, shadows and “outer and inner flames”, in a space where sensory languages dialogue without hierarchy. The bodily experience of movement and dance is led by Bianca Scout, artist and composer with a background in contemporary and classical dance; the visual and lyrical dimension of charcoal drawing and poetry is curated by Amber Joy (THE NARRATOR), poet and storyteller; the soundscape and improvisation take shape thanks to aloisius, founder of life is beautiful, together with Jasper Maurice, in an intuitive score built with physical objects, instruments and voice.
The workshop is open to all ages, experiences and backgrounds. No prior skills are required. Paper and charcoal will be provided by the organisation; comfortable clothing allowing freedom of movement is recommended.
