In Pottery Invaders, glazed terracotta ceases to float in the air and decides to “invade” the painting and its support. Shaped by the artist, the ceramic element immerses itself directly into the layers of the work, creating a sophisticated interplay of duplications and sculptural correspondences in which the painted surface and the three-dimensional material merge and mirror one another. This unprecedented material incursion brings with it a decisive and vibrant stylistic evolution. The colors become vivid, saturated, and brilliant—such as the warm oranges and lush greens that enliven the compositions—steering the works toward a distinctly Pop aesthetic. Even the everyday natural subjects—which have always been dear to the artist as symbols of freedom and resilience—take on a new look: exotic fruits, imposing leaves, and cacti populate the space with a more playful, lighthearted, and ironic tone. This playful approach subverts reality without ever diminishing the profound seriousness of the conceptual exploration and the preservation of beauty that have always distinguished De Felice.
