Galleria Studio G7 inaugurates the new exhibition season with La percezione di un oggetto costa esattamente
la sua perdita, Gregorio Botta’s fourth solo show at the gallery.
Following the recent exhibitions at MAN Museum (2025) and the Rothko Museum (2026), the artist presents a
selection of works produced over the last couple of years, continuing the artistic inquiry that has been his focus
for over three decades.
The surfaces displayed — overlays of rice paper, tissue paper, wax, pigments — are not painted, but take on a
certain thickness and reveal a skin. These are “solid veils”, as the artist defines them, capable of capturing and
releasing light, altering the perception of the work with every shift in the viewer’s gaze.
Water, glass, wax, smoke, paper: the artist’s vocabulary consists of natural elements. Through these essential
materials, capable of registering time rather than representing it, Botta reclaims the value of a suspended
experience of time to allow something to truly manifest according to its own rhythm. Three-dimensional
elements that take shape — glass spheres filled with water, wax shapes and shelves — allow the work to extend
into space, transforming emptiness into matter.
In these times that demand immediate and legible images, Gregorio Botta has chosen to go in the opposite
direction. His work invites us into silence, into the slower time of contemplation: “all my work is fundamentally
based on inquiry, on perception and on the impossibility of having a complete vision.” We are suspended
between a desire for totality and completeness and the awareness of the inherent impermanence and
fragmentary nature of our existence.
The title, taken from a poem by Emily Dickinson, expresses how perception coincides with the experience of
that which, as it appears, inevitably continues to withdraw. Botta’s first artist’s book will also be presented,
accompanied by a text by Lorenzo Respi.
