On October 10, 2026, for the 22nd Giornata del Contemporaneo promoted by AMACI, the public is invited to a guided tour and a special workshop at the Studio d’Arte Astrid Nova gallery in Pergine Valsugana. The event celebrates an exciting new retrospective exhibition dedicated to Maria Giovanna Speranza, a renowned artist from Trentino who recently passed away. Her career was distinguished by exhibitions not only in her home region of Trentino but also across Italy and overseas, ranging from the MUSE Science Museum in Trento to the Lombardy Region, from the Magnifica Comunità di Folgaria to Tunis, and from Palazzo Thun in Trento’s historic center to Hollywood, Santa Barbara, and Pasadena in California.
Titled “FLOWERS”, the exhibition presents a wonderful selection of Speranza’s masterful works. These pieces, curated with meticulous care by her daughter, the artist Viviana Puecher (who now directs the studio and its dedicated gallery), evoke an enchanted atmosphere centered on the beauty of flora.
“FLOWERS” showcases a small yet exquisite series of works that explore floral themes and the beauty of the extraordinary, often rooted in the natural landscapes of the local area. Evocative mountain plants and shady lakeside vistas filled with water lilies are transformed into fantastic, moving settings that, through the artist’s skillful touch, reveal the magic of nature.
For this special event, alongside the magnificent paintings, the exhibition also features precious works in ceramic, glass, and porcelain, all finely hand-decorated by the artist. Every visitor receives a complimentary set of four limited-edition postcards as a memento of the event.
Though she has made Pergine her home, Maria Giovanna Speranza hails from Grumo di San Michele all’Adige. Her artistic work frequently explores the human inner world, dreams, desires, memories, and feelings, using painting as a medium to connect these elements to places depicted on her magnificent canvases exactly as they appeared in the past.
Her elegant, dreamy, and romantic nature evokes moments from bygone eras, leaving behind traces of true beauty and the enduring importance of emotion.
Speranza transports the viewer’s imagination to distant times, amidst 19th-century ladies and gentlemen, fiery sunsets, and enchanted valleys, ultimately arriving at evocative landscapes featuring the mountain huts and shelters of our stunning local region.
The artist delights in delving into the relationship between present and past, as well as between urban and natural spaces, and between landscape and portraiture, exploring their many possible interpretations. Her work ranges from local landscapes of yesteryear to distinctive portraits, including tributes to great Masters of the past, all rendered with her own skillful, personal touch.
