Ferdinandea

On Saturday, October 10, *Ferdinandea* arrives at Micrò in Milan with a program spanning botanical research, material experimentation, ecological practices, sound performance, and moments of shared experience.
In 1831, a volcanic eruption between Sicily and Tunisia caused an island to emerge from the sea. It remained visible for only a few months—long enough for various European powers to attempt to claim it, assigning it different names and asserting ownership—before vanishing back beneath the waves. That island was Ferdinandea. It was a land defined by its temporary nature and unstable boundaries, capable of attracting diverse attention and interests while raising questions about belonging, ownership, and the ways a territory is observed and inhabited. The project by APS Zona Blu stems from this story. In Milan, this image serves as a starting point for creating a temporary, shared space through art—a space that connects different practices, people, and ways of inhabiting the local area. The day’s events involve Studiotannico, Davide Balda, RECUP, Radiice, and VUOTO through workshops, artistic practices, social gatherings, and performances. A key feature of the *Ferdinandea* event will be an open conversation, accompanied by refreshments provided by RECUP. Taking the concept of “non-places” as a starting point, APS Zona Blu invites residents and participants to discuss the local area and its cultural development, gathering viewpoints, desires, and needs to envision new encounters and future initiatives in the neighborhood.
*Ferdinandea* is part of the CAVALCAVIA project, promoted by BSE in partnership with ATS Una Rete per il Casello, Zona Indipendente Artistica, and APS Zona Blu, and supported by Fondazione Cariplo under the *Cultura Diffusa* (Widespread Culture) call for proposals.
