BETWEEN SKINS
Where one body ends, another begins.
Installation and Performance by Ana and Yana Pireva
On Saturday, October 10, 2026, on the occasion of the 22nd CONTEMPORARY ART DAY, Wunderkammer Arts Compound presents BETWEEN SKINS, an installation by Ana Pireva, curated by Antonella Mazza, accompanied by a performance featuring the artist and her twin sister Yana Pireva, under the artistic guidance of Susanna Beltrami – DanceHaus.
In the main hall of Wunderkammer, Ana Pireva’s handmade paper works detach from the walls and inhabit the space, suspended and responsive to air, light and movement. A constellation of fragile yet resilient surfaces, carrying traces of gestures, stories and memories.
For the artist, paper is the contemporary descendant of stone, a SKIN OF THE WORLD capable of receiving and preserving traces of human presence. Created entirely by hand through the interplay of natural fibres, water and colour, the works explore the tension between transparency and materiality, fragility and strength, rupture and cohesion. Images emerge from within the fibres themselves, through a continuous process of transformation and rebirth.
Ana develops her works in series that she considers families. Within the installation, they become constellations in which each element establishes relationships of proximity, distance, mutual support and autonomy. Matter becomes a metaphor for human bonds and for individual and collective memory.
At the heart of BETWEEN SKINS lies the profound bond between Ana and her twin sister Yana. Their relationship unfolds through a performance in which paper becomes a second skin, a space of encounter and separation between identity and duality, belonging and independence.
Echoing Japanese Nō theatre, painting, installation, light, sound and movement converge in an immersive experience, where the body becomes an extension of the artwork and matter transforms into presence.
