On Saturday, 10 October 2026, on the occasion of the Twenty-Second Contemporary Art Day promoted by AMACI (Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums), the National Museums of Vomero, together with the “Novecento a Napoli” Museum, located inside Castel Sant’Elmo, will offer free admission and a special thematic guided tour entitled “Cultural Geographies.”

Taking up the theme of this year’s edition, “Geographies of Contemporaneity,” the educational staff of Castel Sant’Elmo have developed a tour offering a reinterpretation of the museum’s permanent collection, viewing artistic production not as an isolated entity, but as a continuously evolving field of relationships.

While the castle’s historic architecture and traces of site-specific works in its open spaces mark the physical entrance into this place, it is within the “Novecento a Napoli” Museum that this “geography” reveals its full strength and distinctive character. The guided tour will map the vibrant intellectual landscape of the twentieth century, showing how Naples has been a space constantly redefined by the encounter of different creative forces.

Through the works on display, visitors will be able to navigate a landscape shaped by human connections, manifestos, international exchanges, and relationships with historic galleries.

Particular attention will be devoted to the ways in which these relationships have been transformed into tangible matter. The very genesis and development of the museum’s collection—strongly shaped by donations and acquisitions resulting from direct dialogue with artists, their heirs, and collectors—demonstrates how personal and professional connections can physically and culturally transform museum spaces. The works thus become nodes within a vital network, confirming that cultural spaces are never fixed once and for all, but are continuously shaped by the communities that inhabit them and contribute to their enrichment.

This year’s AMACI Contemporary Art Day represents an opportunity to experience the museum as a dynamic ecosystem, deeply resonant with the structures that shape our contemporary territories.
