Cosmogonies of Water. Claudia Müller

Villa d’Este takes part to the Contemporary Art Day) with the guided tour to the exhibition “Cosmogonies of Water. Claudia Müller”, which embodies the theme of the day “Geographies of Contemporaneity” on two distinct levels. The first concerns water itself: the artist’s research investigates bodies of water, both terrestrial and extraterrestrial, as dynamic and sensitive entities capable of connecting natural phenomena, living beings and different time scales, turning the element of water into a geography in motion. The second level concerns the artist’s own origin: Claudia Müller Montes, a Chilean artist who lives and works between Milan and Santiago de Chile, brings to Villa d’Este a dialogue between the European tradition of the Mannerist garden and a South American perspective on the relationship between territory, water and the cosmos — an encounter that is itself geographic and cultural, and a direct expression of this year’s theme.
Curated by Alberto Samonà, Davide Bertolini and Sara Tarissi de Jacobis, the exhibition unfolds across three site-specific installations: “Frontera Líquida,” a video in three movements on the garden floor of the Palazzo; “Acqua Lattea,” a ceramic structure with a moving water circuit and mirrors, in the Greenhouse of the Garden of the Melangoli; and “Spirali d’Acqua,” a ceramic installation at the Fountain of Arianna. The project is part of VILLÆ’s MuseoNatura programme and was developed in collaboration with the Associazione Collettivo L’Aquila Reale ETS as part of the MuseoOFF programme, within the framework of the technical-scientific cooperation agreement with the Comune di Licenza.
The guided tour at 11:00 a.m., led by the artist together with a curator and representatives of L’Aquila Reale, marks the closing highlight of the exhibition’s itinerary, ahead of its final day on 18 October 2026.
