Geographies of Memory: A Dialogue between Italy and China is an exhibition conceived by the Consulate General of Italy in Chongqing in collaboration with the Xu Liaoyuan Museum of Modern Art and Design, presented for the first time in Southwest China as part of the Giornata del Contemporaneo (Contemporary Art Day). The exhibition celebrates the profound value of intercultural education as a journey of discovery, transformation and growth, placing the dialogue between Italy and China — in contemporary art and artistic education alike — at its very heart.
On display are 76 works, including individual pieces and series, by 28 young artists who have graduated from, or are currently studying at, 12 of Italy’s most prestigious art institutions.
The choice of Chengdu gives the project special resonance. A major cultural hub in Southwest China and a reference point for contemporary art well beyond the Sichuan Basin, the city is a place where ancient traditions and contemporary creative energy thrive side by side.
