Infinito Cabinet – Collateral Event of the 61st Venice Art Biennale 2026, curated by Giusy Caroppo – Maria Cristina Crespo’s multi-material Wunderkammer preserves in each work a voice that is not its own: a text, an era, an author embedded in the material. Visitors entering the Cabinet first see the whole, then discover—work by work—the literary and musical layers that compose it. To make this layering audible, a live sound journey has been created in which actress and voice actress Roberta Barbiero, an award-winning performer at the “DUBBING GLAMOUR” FESTIVAL in Genoa, passes through the Cabinet and lends voice to the texts that inhabit the works, from Carrieri’s verses for One Thousand and One Nights to Bukowski’s cold shower on Prince Igor, from the mystical ecstasy of Saint John of the Cross to Petrarch’s poem on the death of Laura, to the ideal dialogue between Fallaci and Pasolini’s portrait vases, where the written word becomes flesh through the voice. No digital intervention: only live voice and body, consistent with the artisanal and physical nature of the works. The initiative includes a guided journey lasting approximately 30 minutes, with the voice actress moving between the selected works.
The format brings the performance back to the Festival’s title: Dubbing Glamour – giving voice (dubbing) to the marvelous, the glamorous, the wonder, or that “WOW” effect Crespo talks about. It’s not an external graft, it’s the same idea of Crespo interpreted through the tools of acting and dubbing.
The Dubbing Glamour Award in this context is not a separate ceremony: it recognizes the person who interpreted that performance. The itinerant journey of metaphorical dubbing/live acting becomes an opportunity even when the journey includes a stop on one of the female figures (Corday, Caccini, Bachmann, or a second voice on Fallaci in dialogue with that of Schiavulli).
Cultural and Institutional Collaborations
The project is coordinated by the cultural partner of the Collateral Event, the Poggio dei Massi Erratici Association – chaired by Isabella De Paz – and involves the Arte e Scienza Cultural Association and the Gruppo Artisti Genovesi (Genoa, since 1996), producer of the Dubbing Glamour Film Festival – EFFE Label Festival, supported by the Ministry of Culture – General Directorate of Cinema, dedicated to the professional ecosystem of acting, dubbing, and audiovisual arts, with long-standing partnerships (Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, FEPACI (Fédération Panafricaine des Cinéastes) and an artistic committee composed of historic voices in dubbing and criticism.
The initiative brings together three renowned institutional entities and is part of the Dubbing Glamour Film Festival, a project already validated by the Ministry of Culture – Directorate General for Cinema, internationally recognized with the EFFE Label (Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe).
