Studio Orma is pleased to inaugurate its 2026–2027 exhibition season with the first solo exhibition in Italy by Hamid Hoveyda. Born in Tehran in 1967, the artist lives and works between Naples and Brussels. Hoveyda has been carrying out research in the fields of painting and drawing for decades, an exploration that intensified in 2021 during his studies at the RHoK Academie in Brussels under the guidance of artist Rik De Boe.

The exhibition project so close, so far offers a glimpse into the artist’s broad and varied body of work, focusing on the changing and playful nature of his artistic language. The exhibition brings together paintings, graphic works, artist’s books, and personal materials from his studio. The artist speaks of his studio as a chambre d’écho (echo chamber) where every gesture bounces from one work to another: remnants and involuntary marks form the beginning of the next creation. Here, error is not a crisis, but an opportunity to break away from the identical.

Hoveyda’s artistic practice stems from an urgent inner need and unfolds as a dialogue with the submerged realms of the psyche and the subtle forces of nature and history. Hoveyda prefers the concept of “creation” to the word “art,” seeking a state of lightness where every preconceived idea falls away to allow something vital, fragile, and free to manifest. To achieve this, he continuously reinvents his own language, countering the mind’s tendency to build systems.

Across this variety of works, one perceives a call to the primordial and the archaeological, standing on the threshold between what is archaic and what is newly born. It is on this aspect that the performance “I like Roma and Orma likes me focuses, its tongue-in-cheek title referencing Joseph Beuys” on october 13th, 14th. Beuys believed that artistic practice should not be the exclusive domain of professionals, but that all of humanity needs to develop a creative outlook to give meaning to experience.
