To mark the eight hundredth anniversary of the death of Saint Francis, Fondazione POMA Liberatutti in Pescia presents an exhibition dedicated to the Saint’s presence in art, with a particular focus on the artistic heritage connected to the local area.
The exhibition brings together three distinct perspectives on Saint Francis.
The preparatory cartoons for Romano Stefanelli’s frescoes in the Chapel of the Relics at the Sacro Convento in Assisi, now the Hall of Saint Bonaventure, were created in collaboration with artist Massimo Callossi. These twelve works offer a close look at the creative process that precedes a fresco.
Alongside the cartoons, a group photography exhibition interprets the Franciscan presence through four distinct artistic sensibilities. Serena Gallorini, Alessandro Mariani, Esther May and Giovanni Savino: four photographers, four personal perspectives.
Completing the exhibition is a selection of photographic enlargements of Bonaventura Berlinghieri’s panel painting, Saint Francis and Scenes from His Life (1235), allowing visitors to explore the work’s details and discover elements that might otherwise escape notice at first glance.
The exhibition reflects the Foundation’s desire to draw renewed attention to Berlinghieri’s artistic legacy, deeply rooted in the town of Pescia, and to offer new ways of viewing, understanding, appreciating, conserving, safeguarding and sharing it.
