From January 2025, two new museum institutions join the AMACI network: the “Luigi Spazzapan” Regional Gallery of Contemporary Art in Gradisca d’Isonzo, Friuli Venezia Giulia, and the MAC – Museum of Contemporary Art in Lissone, in the province of Monza e della Brianza, Lombardy, enriching the network with new members for a total of 26 associated museums across the country.
“Luigi Spazzapan” Regional Gallery of Contemporary Art
Opened in the historic Palazzo Torriani in Gradisca d’Isonzo, in the province of Gorizia, the Gallery preserves and promotes the works of Gradisca-born artist Luigi Spazzapan, one of the earliest representatives of Abstractionism and Informalism in Italy, as well as those of various contemporary regional artists.
In recent years, the Spazzapan Gallery’s activity has featured dozens of exhibitions of art, design and photography, interdisciplinary reviews, talks, workshops and conferences, with a programme built around relationship and exchange; the exhibitions Artista + Artista and Sottsass/Spazzapan are among the most notable examples. The Gallery has also focused on promoting contemporary art through the Together project, which will see sixty contemporary artists from Friuli Venezia Giulia take centre stage in exhibitions and events over the next three years.
The Gallery is managed by ERPAC FVG – the Regional Cultural Heritage Authority of Friuli Venezia Giulia, together with the Municipality of Gradisca d’Isonzo and the Fondazione Carigo.

MAC – Museum of Contemporary Art, Lissone
The MAC – Museum of Contemporary Art in Lissone, whose current exhibition premises were opened in 2000, is arranged over three above-ground floors and a basement level. The Museum houses a substantial body of works stemming from the extraordinary history of the historic Lissone Prize (1946–1967). Backed by the most highly regarded international critics, the Lissone Prize became, during the 1950s and 1960s, a genuine point of reference for the most advanced artistic research on an international level. From that activity — two decades of pioneering ferment — the Historic Collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Lissone was born, comprising works by Emilio Vedova, Piero Dorazio, Mauro Reggiani, Ennio Morlotti, Karel Appel, Antoni Tàpies, François Dufrêne, Emilio Scanavino, Achille Perilli, Renato Birolli, Mario Schifano, Theodor Werner, Gérard Schneider and Valerio Adami, Mattia Moreni, to name but a few. The museum’s holdings also include a collection of works by Lissone-born artist Gino Meloni and a substantial section of recently acquired works. Alongside the display of the Lissone Prize Collection, the MAC organises temporary contemporary art exhibitions each year and regularly hosts cultural events such as performances, talks, book presentations, guided tours and concerts. It also organises the Lissone Prize for art, which has alternated, since 2007 and on a biennial basis, with the Lissone Design Prize. A cultural mediation service for visitors operates within the museum, and a book corner with books and catalogues available for reference on site can be found on the ground floor.
