Ereignis is an exhibition/artistic residency taking place between September and October 2026 at the Centro Filarmonico of Savoca (Messina, Sicily).
The German term Ereignis, generally translated as “event”, is used here in reference to Heidegger’s understanding of the word, which marks a phenomenological shift from the idea of an event as the manifestation of an absolute entity towards that of a dynamic, processual and relational occurrence.
An occurrence, then, inherently shaped by relations: something that escapes an objectifying grasp and therefore becomes less an image to be fixed than a thought, a position to be inhabited over time. “The Shadow of Etna”, at the core of Ilai Nawe’s research and a focal element of the exhibition, reflects this condition: an occurrence that happens precisely because of the relationship between subjectivity, territory and the phenomenon itself.
