The Muratcentoventidue Artecontemporanea Gallery presents “MOVEMENTS”, the new solo exhibition by Norwegian artist Charlotte Thiis-Evensen. With a perspective that merges sociological inquiry and intimate narrative, the artist uses video, photography, and installations to explore emotional relationships, identity, and the invisible power dynamics that condition individual freedom. Through a silent and judgment-free observation, her research deconstructs ordinary gestures, transforming them into universal stories.
The core piece of the exhibition is the video-film Movements (2024), which analyzes the crucial and ephemeral phase of one’s twenties. Through the use of slow motion, the video shows young men and women dancing or remaining still in a film studio, moving to the rhythm of a musical track chosen in complete autonomy. Thiis-Evensen digs beneath the idealized surface of youth to capture its fragile insecurity and transience before adulthood. In this context, dance strips away any purely aesthetic intent to transform into an act of self-determination and a tool of silent resistance against societal expectations.
