On the occasion of the 22nd Contemporary Art Day 2026, organized by AMACI, on October 10, 2026, the Trentino-based art associations Studio d’Arte Andromeda and Spazio Piera will host a forum on contemporary art in Trentino, starting with a simple question: What is contemporary art? The goal is to understand the perceptions, knowledge, expectations, and needs of the Trentino community, while identifying possible new ways to access, participate in, and develop contemporary art.
The first phase involves a series of interviews with the public, aimed at gathering information on perceptions and knowledge of contemporary art, its sustainability and presence in Trentino, as well as existing venues and initiatives.
Particular attention will be given to the relationship between art, sustainability, and the local area, exploring the role that art can play in raising awareness of environmental and social issues. The interviews will also delve into the community’s needs and expectations, preferred forms of participation, audiences currently less engaged, and possible proposals for the future.
The second phase will feature a roundtable discussion with artists, curators, directors, cultural professionals, gallery owners, researchers, and institutional representatives.
The discussion will build on the results of the interviews, bringing together the perspectives of the public and those of professionals. The discussion will explore the role of contemporary art in Trentino, the relationship between artistic production and sustainability, and the challenges and opportunities within the arts and culture sector.
> The roundtable will thus serve as a forum for analysis and discussion of the key issues that have emerged: the role of contemporary art in the region, ways to make it more accessible and inclusive, and the relationship between artistic production and sustainability.
> The public presentation of the interviews with citizens. This will bring to light the perceptions, doubts, expectations, and needs gathered during the survey, relating them to the themes addressed in the roundtable discussion and opening a direct dialogue with the audience in attendance.
