Loop screening of SCULTURA (running time: 29′)
SCULTURA is a silent film on 35mm film by artist Marco Mazzi (Florence, 1980), created in collaboration with Jona B. Gandolfo and Alexandra Rinja. At the heart of the work lies the theme of greenery—both urban and rural—explored at that boundary that becomes a threshold: a shifting and often invisible line where the landscape ceases to be a passive backdrop and becomes a space for negotiation, exploration, and projection.
Mazzi has converted the dense, vibrant material of 35 mm film into a digital format, allowing it to be projected in a loop and experienced with the lightness of contemporary media—thereby prompting a reflection on formats and various technological platforms.
Within the narrative, however, the camera begins in the outdoor spaces of the Open Studio Italo Bolano before venturing deeper—only to immediately fade away into the distance—into the silence of a shady undergrowth. It is in this twilight that the improvised performance by Jona B. Gandolfo and Alexandra Rinja comes to life. The camera captures the physical actions of the two performers, following their movements: their shared physical exploration seems to bridge the gaps between the soul, animality, and technological humanity, uncovering their secret connections with exceptional simplicity and ease. The film is accompanied by the photo book SCHERMO VERDE (published by Gli Ori), featuring photographs of the same landscape taken on film.
