On the occasion of the Twenty-Second Giornata del Contemporaneo, the Italian Cultural Institute of Tunis presents MAKLAA, an international artist residency project dedicated to contemporary creation, experimentation and artistic dialogue between Italy and Tunisia.
The first edition brings together Italian saxophonist and electroacoustic composer Laura Agnusdei and Tunisian musician Rami Harrabi – Virus2020, inviting them to share their respective artistic practices and collaborate on the creation of an original work.
The project will be launched on Saturday, 10 October 2026 at 7:00 pm at the Italian Cultural Institute of Tunis with an evening exploring the encounter between music and visual arts. An exhibition of drawings by Tunisian artist Aymen Mbarki will accompany performances by Rami Harrabi – Virus2020 and the Laura Agnusdei Quartet, creating a dialogue between sound, visual research and contemporary experimentation.
The event marks the beginning of a project that will continue with an artist residency at Dar Meso, in the heart of the Medina of Tunis. During the residency, Laura Agnusdei and Rami Harrabi will develop a shared process of research and creation, bringing together artistic languages, experiences and perspectives from both shores of the Mediterranean.
MAKLAA is conceived as a Mediterranean laboratory for encounter, exchange and artistic production, fostering new connections between the Italian and Tunisian contemporary scenes and transforming intercultural dialogue into a shared creative process.
