Michela Liberti La Torre (The Tower) presents a pictorial and symbolic journey that reinterprets the myth of Cupid and Psyche—as told by Apuleius—as a metaphor for contemporary existence.
At the heart of this artistic inquiry stands the Tower—a figure representing consciousness and inner guidance, capable of steering Psyche during her descent into the Underworld. In Liberti’s works, the myth transforms into a reflection on the present day and the need to rediscover the capacity to listen, self-awareness, and direction within a reality dominated by speed and hyper-connectivity.
Through a textured painting style characterized by layering, marks, and chromatic tensions, the artist constructs mental spaces where matter becomes an internal experience; the painting itself invites the viewer to pause and embark on a personal journey.
As highlighted in the critical text by Massimo Sgroi, the Tower represents a form of consciousness capable of traversing the invisible spaces of contemporary life without being consumed by them: it is not a means to avoid the darkness, but a tool for passing through it and transforming it into knowledge.
