Nocturne

Antonio Loi, a photographer attracted by the anthropized landscape, carries out in his city, Cagliari, an infinite research on urban space understood as an infinite photographic laboratory.
From the center to the periphery, his intent is to investigate, through the contingent and transitory aspects, the most ancestral and grotesque ones. One of these research projects is “Notturno”, which turns thirty in 2026. The project explores the Castello neighborhood, where the Foundation is located; a neighborhood to which the artist has been linked since childhood and which he continues to frequent as a disconsolate spectator in the face of the great transformations, not always positive, of the historic district.
The same author says: “I was born here but rather than living here I prefer to walk through it, to look at it. On foot, due to steep climbs, the approach is slow and, once inside, everything seems equally slow, even the cars, forced into those irregular empty volumes. With the clear sun, sharp chiaroscuros are created between the buildings and the old crumbling walls appear like dreams without illusions. At night the same streets and the same walls, devoid of that merciless light, leave room for the depth of the nocturnal black.”
