“..During my time of multi-city fieldwork, I found that as rapid industrialisation gradually replaced the inheritance of handicraft, the past handicraft was also replaced. Many women’s stories of labour were buried, leaving only tiny pieces of memory and metaphor. After visiting the craftswomen who still dedicate themselves to the sericultural industry
over several decades, I started thinking about how female labourers find their own identity and place in their own ways. I wondered how these women pass on this spiritual power in their ways, and how narratives sidelined by power and industry changes can regain attention…”Y.Z.
