On Saturday 10 October 2026 at 11.00 am, the Sabe Foundation for Art in Ravenna presents Pagine, a solo exhibition by Antonio Violetta, curated by Claudio Spadoni, organised with the support of the MAR – Art Museum of the City of Ravenna. The exhibition is also held under the patronage of the city’s Academy of Fine Arts and the Department of Cultural Heritage at the University of Bologna – Ravenna Campus.
A sculptor of national and international renown, active in Bologna since the 1970s, Violetta has taken part in major exhibitions such as Documenta 7 in Kassel (1982) and the 42nd Venice Biennale (1986). The exhibition brings together a selection of works representative of her most famous series, the *Pagine*: non-figurative surfaces bearing the traces of a gestural style that is at once free and controlled, punctuated by pauses and fractures that establish a different relationship with the environment. They are, in fact, irregular reliefs marked by grooves, scratches and cuts that invite the viewer to discover the unexpected relationships between the vertical and horizontal planes. The ‘Pagine’ are further complemented by two works from the ‘Lunarie’ series, which explore the threshold between materiality and immateriality.
This exhibition also provides an opportunity to reflect on the artist’s connection with the city of Ravenna. In 2000, Violetta received the Scipione Prize and created the bronze sculpture *Omnia vincit Amor* for the city in Romagna; in 2009, meanwhile, she presented *La giganta* at the MAR, a work inspired by Charles Baudelaire’s poem *Géante*, with a musical contribution by Fabrizio Festa. Finally, in 2018, she took part in the group exhibition *Montezuma Fontana Mirko. La scultura in mosaico dalle origini a oggi* (Montezuma Fontana Mirko. Mosaic sculpture from its origins to the present day), also held at the MAR. For this reason, the exhibition also includes a work from 1988 drawn from the museum’s own collections, which is temporarily reunited with its sister works.
